Winter vacations are just around the corner! While everyone is preparing for the holidays, it isn’t too early to start preparations for the winter vacations too. Do you have anything in mind? Are you going to travel or are you just going to go into hibernation? If you don’t have an idea of what to do, we suggest that you should make a trip to one of or to the multiple national parks you will find in the U.S.

This way, you don’t need to spend way too much and you can still enjoy a change of scenery. Moreover, staying within the country allows you to be connected with your friends and family. You can even post or share your trip while being connected to the internet at all times. You just need to get the right internet plan and speed. Xfinity might be able to help you with that.

Yellowstone National Park, Montana/Wyoming

For those of you who don’t know, Yellowstone National Park is a 3,500-square-mile wilderness recreation area located in the northwest corner of Wyoming and extending into Montana. It is the first national park in the U.S. and it is widely considered the first national park in the world too. You will find that Yellowstone is filled with lush forests, hot springs, alpine rivers, and gushing geysers, with the Old Faithful being the most popular geyser of all.

Aside from this, Yellowstone is quite well-known for its wildlife and you will find a variety of animals ranging from grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elks. You can even indulge in many recreational opportunities in the park, like hiking, camping, fishing, boating, etc. During the winter season, you can take tours on snowmobiles and snow coaches. So, what do you think? Is the park really worth it? You won’t know until you’ve been, that’s for sure.

Joshua Tree National Park, California

Joshua Tree National Park is located in Southeastern California and it was named after the Joshua trees native to the Mojave Desert. This park has an interesting history as well. Initially, it was declared a national monument back in 1936, however, it was then declared a national park in 1994. This park is 1,242.4 square miles, slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island.

Another interesting thing about this park is that it includes parts of two different deserts, the Mojave Desert, and the Colorado Desert. Both these deserts have their ecosystems and the characteristics are determined by the elevation of the deserts, the Mojave Desert being higher, and the Colorado Desert being lower. You can do a range of things in this park ranging from camping, hiking, climbing, birdwatching, etc.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is located in Arizona by the Colorado River. This canyon and adjacent rim are all part of the Grand Canyon National Park. An interesting fact about the Grand Canyon is that President Theodore Roosevelt was a major advocate of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and he would often visit it to enjoy the scenery and to hunt as well.

Besides sightseeing, you can enjoy a bunch of other activities in the Grand Canyon like hiking, running, rafting, and even helicopter tours. You might have even heard of the Grand Canyon Ultra Marathon, which is a 24-hour marathon where the participants are taken through the Grand Canyon. Of course, some activities are not encouraged by park officials like hiking down to the Colorado river and back up as it is very dangerous.

While these are the three best parks you could go to for your winter vacation, some more national parks are worth mentioning. Check out the park names as given below:

  • Death Valley National Park, California
  • Crater Lake National Park
  • Yosemite National Park
  • Grand Teton National Park
  • Zion National Park
  • Glacier National Park
  • Olympic National Park
  • Sequoia National Park

All in all

These trips would most definitely be a wonderful way to get away from home and make the most out of your vacation time. The best part about some of these trips is that they can be family-friendly and so, you can take your family with you to make a memorable family trip.

Otherwise, it would be perfect with a bunch of your friends too or just alone! Of course, if you have already been to the first three parks, then you can always look into the additional national parks mentioned.
